Student’s suicides at KAIST
KAIST is one of the best univericity in Asia.
These days, KAIST has become the talk of the town because several students committed suicide. It greatly impacted the society. The reason why these events happened is because of endless competition. It is very serious problem. To be honest, I think it is necessary to compete with other students. As you know, our country doesn’t have material things such as gold, oil, mineral. We have developed based on technology. It is our competitiveness. Therefore, competition is important for us to succeed. We have to overcome endless competition. But several students couldn’t these situations so they extremely selected. President Seo of KAIST told us we should know how to lose gracefully. If we lose this time, we will win next time. This is life. Absolutely, KAIST officials have to edit inefficiency and extreme rules. Too much is as bad as too little. We must not give students burden beyond capacity. Based on competition, we have to study hard. I believe it will be our weapon. Lately, Barack Obama used to praise about Korea’s education passion. They are emulating our passion for our study. I think we are going right way for us.
Finally, this event is very pity. However, it can’t be helped. Upon this opportunity, I hope we go to better way. It is our pleasure. It is our goal. Thank you.
Hi Se-young. Some of my friends are in the KAIST and I heard about their stories. I heard when they were freshmen, they got shock a lot! Because they were the number one in the high schools, middle schools.. But in KAIST, there are so many number 1 students, so they could not believe they are normal in the university.. Isn't it interesting?.. I want to take a head of the snakes than a tail of the dragon... Because I don't want to feel like that
답글삭제This is a serious issue indeed. But how can it be solved? As you mentioned, competitiveness is important to the success of Korea, so it would be impossible to completely cut it out. You suggested not pushing people beyond their capabilities, but that is an individual place for each person, so it's not realistic to think that in a large university a teacher could push one student more than another. I agree that it's a tragedy and that learning to lose gracefully is a lifelong skills. Unfortunately, I don't think many students get that message from the people who are important in their lives.
답글삭제Yeah. Competitive is necessary to develope our country. However, the way how we makes people competitive is wrong. It took away humane. What do we have to do to prevent this tragedy?
